Rosneft Pavilion at Russia Expo Hosts Power Engineer’s Day

22 December 2023

The Rosneft pavilion at the Russia Expo hosted the Power Engineer’s Day. On 22 December, Russia traditionally celebrates the professional holiday of energy industry workers. Rosneft is one of the largest energy consumers in the Russian Federation, with annual electricity consumption of almost 48.5 billion kWh.

On the day of the professional holiday, the Rosneft pavilion hosted thematic competitions with prizes and a lecture on the company’s energy-saving technologies and initiatives aimed at rational use of energy resources and reduction of energy consumption.

In the period from 2014 to 2022, the amount of energy resources saved by Rosneft exceeded 67 billion roubles in cash equivalent, at a total cost of 13.8 billion roubles. In the first nine months of 2023, the amount of fuel and energy resources saved by the Company as part of the energy saving programme was 118 thousand tonnes of fuel equivalent, or over 4 billion roubles.

The Company’s employees operate a massive complex of power equipment, including some 62,000 km of power grids, 41,000 transformer substations and generating facilities with an aggregate installed electric capacity of 2.24 GW. The energy divisions of the Rosneft’s subsidiaries employ more than 21,000 people.

Improvement of production asset efficiency is one of the key components of the Rosneft’s Strategy. Since the beginning of the year, the Company’s enterprises have implemented tens of thousands of energy-saving measures to optimise technological processes and introduce energy-efficient equipment. A systematic approach to the rational use of energy resources at all stages — from drilling wells to outdoor lighting at production facilities — allows us to achieve significant results in this area. Thanks to the high level of expertise of the Company’s specialists, the energy management system of Rosneft’s production facilities is improved every year.

The Company’s leading subsidiaries in exploration and production, refining and petrochemicals made the greatest contribution to improving the Company’s energy efficiency.

Samotlorneftegaz’s greatest economic impact came from the introduction of a new method for determining the amount of oil in the produced reservoir fluid. This innovation has made it possible to increase the accuracy of the measurements by more than 10 times and to optimise the technological operation of the wells.

Orenburgneft has commissioned a substation with a total electrical capacity of 20 MW. The new plant has provided reliable power to the Tananyk field and has also become a backup power source for the prospective Zapadno-Dolgovskoye field, where new oil production facilities are being built and commissioned. Orenburgneft is also successfully converting its injection well control systems to solar panels. The 141 injection well controllers are powered by the energy from the light modules.

RN-Vankor is paying special attention to energy efficiency in the design and selection of technical solutions for Vostok Oil’s new production facilities, the flagship project of the oil and gas industry. Since the beginning of the year, the enterprise has implemented 623 energy saving measures to optimise the operation of its production facilities.

RN-Uvatneftegaz achieved savings by reducing the energy consumption of its mechanised production facilities. The Mehfond corporate information system monitors and manages the production well stock. Pilot testing of the new programme functionality on the Uvat project demonstrated its high efficiency.

In Rosneft’s oil and gas production complex, RN-Yuganskneftegaz, RN-Purneftegaz, Samaraneftegaz, Udmurtneft, Taas-Yuryakh Neftegazodobycha, Kondaneft, Verkhnechonskneftegaz, Tyumenneftegaz and ROSPAN International achieved high energy efficiency indicators, These include optimising the operation of electric centrifugal pumps, selecting new pumping equipment with higher efficiency, using electric submersible motors with higher voltage and energy-efficient transformers.

Bashneft has identified energy-saving potential in its mechanised well fleet by applying energy-efficient equipment design using the Rospamp corporate calculation system, as well as geological and technical measures to isolate water inflow into wells.

The Ufa refinery complex has made a significant contribution to the implementation of Bashneft’s energy saving programme. At one of Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim’s units, automatic control transformers were installed and the efficiency of the furnace equipment was increased. At the Ufaorgsintez petrochemical plant, heat energy recovery was increased by upgrading equipment and optimising the operation of electrical equipment.

Power engineers at the Company’s refining and petrochemical complex from Achinsk Refinery, Angarsk Petrochemical Company, Kuibyshev Refinery, Novokuibyshevsk Refinery, Saratov Refinery, Syzran Refinery, Novokuibyshevsk Petrochemical Company, Komsomolsk Refinery, Angarsk Polymer Plant, and Ryazan Refining Company have reduced energy consumption by modernising production, commissioning new equipment, installing automatic lighting control, and replacing transformers and distribution boards.

Happy professional holiday, dear colleagues!
