Rosneflot, a Rosneft subsidiary, and Zvezda Shipyard signed contracts for delivery of tankers.
According to the agreement Zvezda will construct five Aframax tankers with deadweight of 114,000 to be used by Rosneft.
Aframax tankers are vessels of new type fueled by natural gas fuel and meeting high environment safety standards as well as new rules for limitation of sulfur oxide and greenhouse gas emission that will be applied in the basins of Baltic and North seas starting 2020.
Rosneft plans to use such tankers for exporting its products from the Russian ports under CIF terms (carriage of goods by sea to a port of destination) from the Baltic Sea ports. Also, Rosneft’s plans fully comply with the regulation of the Government of the Russian Federation on attracting to the export transportation ships with the Russian flag that were built in Russia.
Commenting on the signing, Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin said: "Signing of contracts as part of new order of Rosneft for Zvezda Shipyard confirms Company's commitment to development of modern shipbuilding complex in the Far East and use of Russian-made vessels in its fleet. The Company will obtain new vessels meeting strict international environmental safety standards in hydrocarbon transportation".
