Sponsored by Rosneft, Gubkin University Launches Educational Course for Employees of Indian Oil and Gas Companies

The Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas has launched an educational course on “Production Intensification and Enhanced Oil Recovery” for employees of Indian oil and gas companies. The training was organized as part of the cooperation agreement in education and training between Rosneft and ONGC Videsh Ltd. as the coordinator of a group of leading Indian oil and gas companies. The opening ceremony of the educational course was held at the Offshore Drilling Centre, established at the university with the support of Rosneft. The event was attended by the students, Rector of the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas Viktor Martynov, faculty members, Rosneft and ONGC Videsh Ltd. representatives

The training will be attended by 20 managers and experts from leading Indian oil and gas companies, including ONGC Videsh Ltd, Oil India Limited, Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat PetroResources Limited, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited. The educational course for the Indian partners will be given by experts and professors of the Gubkin University in English. The training programme includes the main areas of production intensification and enhanced oil recovery:

  • Geophysical well logging and pressure transient analysis;
  • Hydrodynamic and geological simulation;
  • Materials and chemical reagents used to intensify oil production;
  • Well killing;
  • Core research;
  • Selection and laboratory testing of enhanced oil recovery methods.

As part of the educational course, Indian specialists will get acquainted not only with the most advanced oil and gas industry technologies, but also will test their knowledge and skills: they will conduct laboratory research of enhanced oil recovery methods, as well as work with real geological and hydrodynamic models.

“This educational programme is the beginning of interaction with the Indian side in education and training of qualified personnel. This cooperation involves not only training Indian specialists in Russia, but also internships for Russian citizens in India,” said Director of HR Department of Rosneft Tamara Solovykh.

“This project aims to offer Indian companies’ employees the best practices of the university in intensifying oil and gas production. We have formed the programme in such a manner that it allows Indian colleagues to exchange experience with our professors and experts, as well as to examine in practice all industrial processes they took interest in,” said the Rector of the Gubkin University Victor Martynov.

Director of Human Resources of ONGC Videsh Ltd Meena Shyam Lal said: “This programme is the first step towards building of the long-term cooperation in the area of personnel training and development. Employees of Indian oil and gas companies’ production departments, representing the entire chain of oil and gas production, are among the trainees. New knowledge will help them in skills development to fulfil the goals set. In turn, we look forward to Russian colleagues coming in India next year.”

In 2016, during the BRICS summit, Rosneft and ONGC Videsh Ltd as the coordinator of a group of leading Indian oil and gas companies, including ONGC Videsh Ltd, Oil India Limited, Indian Oil Corporation, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Bharat Petro Resources Limited, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited signed Educational Cooperation Agreement. The signed documents provide for the possibility of companies’ specialists training in educational institutions of the Russian Federation and the Republic of India, including corporate training centres, in higher and additional education programs in key areas of oil and gas industry. Also under the agreements, it is planned to organize the exchange of knowledge and expertise, including on technologies development in oil and gas sector, during meetings, conferences and joint roundtable discussions.

The Gubkin University has been Rosneft’s academic partner since 2003.

An agreement for cooperation between the Company and the University was signed at the 18th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in 2014, which has complex nature and ensures educational, infrastructural, scientific and technological, as well as innovation cooperation.

The University provides services of occupational training and retraining of the Company’s employees. More than 70 educational programmes on various professional directions were implemented for the Company’s employees in 2018.

The Gubkin Russian State University is Rosneft’s reliable partner on implementation of a corporate continuing education system ‘School - University - Enterprise’. More than 150 students do practical training and undertake the internship in Rosneft annually. The best students and promising lecturers are awarded with corporate grants and scholarships. The students of the university participate in scientific-technical conferences for Rosneft’s young professionals. Education of foreign students in university was started in September 2014 with support of Rosneft for supplying the Company’s international projects with qualified professionals.

In 2017, Rosneft opened the scientific and educational Offshore Drilling Centre in the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas. The Centre is created to train specialists in drilling offshore oil and gas wells which will be in demand, in particular for the Company.

In the future, the Offshore Drilling Centre will become a unique platform for training specialists in drilling wells offshore and marine operations, which has no analogues in the world. The Centre offers specialization in following areas: Offshore Drilling, Offshore Drilling Supervising, Oil and Gas Wells Drilling, Geo-Steering and Well Targeting during the Drilling Process and some others.
