Rosneft subsidiaries released more than 8.3 million fry into Russian rivers and water bodies in July as part of a programme to preserve biodiversity and replenish aquatic bioresources.

Conserving biodiversity and ecosystems in the regions of operation is one of the priorities of Company's 2030 strategy. The initiatives of the Company's subsidiaries are aimed at replenishing water resources and increasing the population of valuable fish species.

Workers of a number of enterprises released fry into the water bodies of the Ob-Irtysh basin. The ecologists of ‘Rospan International’ released more than 4 million muksun fry, ‘Kynsko-Chaselskoye Oil and Gas’ - more than 2.44 million fry of muksun and red-listed nelma. The workers of ‘Kharampurneftegaz released more than 663,000 young broad whitefish, the workers of SevComNeftegaz and RN-Purneftegaz released a total of 144,000 nelma fry, and the workers of RN-Uvatneftegaz released more than two thousand muksun fry.

Taas-Yuryakh Neftegazodobycha specialists traditionally took part in the July environmental action, releasing more than 1 million peled fry into a flow of the Akhtaranda River in the Republic of Yakutia.

The Samara Group of Rosneft enterprises also makes an annual contribution to the preservation of the fish fauna of the Volga reservoirs. Samaraneftegaz and Novokuibyshevsk Petrochemical Company released almost 74,000 sterlet fry into the Saratov reservoir. Due to their dedicated work, the population size of this species has been restored in recent years. According to scientists, the sterlet population is currently at a level sufficient for its natural reproduction. Thus, in the future, this may lead to its removal from the Red List.

The Saratov Refinery released 3,300 sterlet fry into the Volgograd Reservoir. Ecologists of the enterprise also held an ecology lesson for children of the plant workers, where the children were told about freshwater fish species living in the reservoir. ‘RN-Exploration released more than 2,000 young grayling into the Bratsk reservoir, and RN-Shelf-Arctic released more than 1,500 chum salmon fry into the Tym River in the Sakhalin Region.

Employees of the Angarsk Petrochemical Company together with pupils of the ‘Rosneft Class’ of the Angarsk school released 10 thousand peled fry into the Belaya River of the Irkutsk Region, from where they will get into the Angara River and further into the Bratsk Reservoir. Peled fry have a low chance of survival in the natural environment. Therefore, fish breeding in an artificial environment and subsequent stocking is an effective way to maintain the population of a valuable fish species for the region.
